Celtic have dished out an almighty thrashing with a 4-1 stroll over Chelsea at the iconic Notre Dame Stadium, in their final warm-up game ahead of next Sunday's big kick-off against Kilmarnock.
Goals from Matt O'Riley, Kyogo, Luis Palma and Mikey Johnston had Celtic four up at the home of the Fighting Irish college sports teams, with Christopher Nkunku's late penalty a mere consolation for the Premier League side, who will now go back to the pre-season drawing board.
It wasn't quite as dominant a display as the scoreline suggested at times, with Kasper Schmeichel enjoying another fine outing between the sticks as he continues to look more and more like the shrewdest of acquisitions with every passing minute on the pitch.
The only concern Brendan Rodgers will have had this evening will be the injury to Daizen Maeda, forced off after just 35 minutes for Palma, a worry for the fanbase after Nicolas Kuhn was crocked against Man City during the week.
Enzo Maresca – a manager mooted as a potential Parkhead candidate on multiple occasions - will be left licking his wounds after this pre-season humbling, but can console himself with the fact that Chelsea are just two games into their own preparations as he looks to iron out any tactical kinks before the Premier League returns later in August.
