Everything you want to know about magnetic lashes (2025)

If you find the application of traditional false lashes too much of a faff (join the club), then magnetic lashes may well be for you.

So, how do magnetic lashes work? Really, it’s simple. Instead of using one strip per eye, you use two: both of which have tiny magnets built into the base, meaning they click together around your natural lashes, negating the need for any messy glue (or for covering your less-than professional handiwork with lashings of eyeliner). Even better, most magnetic lash strips can be re-worn multiple times, making them a very cost-effective option.

But if placing teeny magnets so near your peepers sounds a little scary to you, it needn’t. These smart strips are actually a cinch to use and safe to wear on the longest of nights: just be sure to read the instructions thoroughly, and always remove them before hitting the pillow.

What about magnetic liner?

Yes, you read that correctly – you can now get your hands on false lashes that stick to a magnetic liner, making the whole affair even easier. Simply draw your cat-eye flick, then nestle the lashes over the dry eyeliner, where they’ll stick for as long as you want them to.

How to apply magnetic lashes

Applying magnetic lashes can indeed be fiddly, but once you’ve mastered the technique you’ll be able to slip them on and off in seconds.

First things first: make sure your eyelids are clean, curled, and free from oil before attempting to apply either magnetic strips or liner-based lashes. If you’ve used a cleansing oil, ensure it's thoroughly removed: a sweep of micellar water should do the trick. Similarly, don’t use oil-based eye products, such as primer or mascara, on your lashes.

Magnetic lashes can be trimmed, but it’s important to snip neatly up to one of the magnets, to ensure the ends don’t ping away from your eyelids (there is nothing more annoying).

To apply magnetic strips, first position the top strip neatly over your natural lashes. Hold it in place, then bring the bottom strip beneath your natural lashes, allowing the magnets to line up and stick together. You can also grip each lash strip in an applicator, before slowly bringing them together around your lashes.

For liner-based magnetic lashes, follow the same prep (so no oil, guys) and then draw your cat-eye flick using the magnetic liner. Some require a few coats to ensure there’s enough magnetic power for your lashes to stick on. Once you’ve perfected that liner, simply drop your lashes on top, as close to the lash line as possible.

The best magnetic lashes and liners to try now

Lola’s Lashes specialises in magnetic sets, and there are plenty of beautiful designs to choose from. We love the Sapphire set for everyday enhancement: they’re ultra-wispy with a great curl for that fluttery, wide-eyed look. For something more dramatic? It has to be the full, fierce Amber.

All Lola’s Lashes magnetic sets are vegan-friendly and designed to be used with the brand’s magnetic liner, which is waterproof, latex-free, and a breeze to use thanks to the ultra-fine brush nib.

Eyelure’s magnetic lashes are pretty full and fluffy, so it does take a bit of practice to get them on correctly. However, it’s totally with the effort: one you’ve clicked those magnets on straight, you’ll have dramatically long lashes that look surprisingly real.
