In the video produced by OBB Pictures, the model, who typically rocks a natural look even when she does wear makeup, breaks down her bedtime skincare routine step-by-step. Check it out below if you wish; then, we'll discuss.

Hailey Bieber's Cleansing Routine

First thing’s first: The dewy skinned beauty uses the Algae Enzyme Cleansing Oil by MARA Beauty to take off her makeup. She specifically mentions how she stays away from makeup wipes, which we know can be irritating and drying. “I started [oil cleansing] during quarantine, and it has honestly made the biggest difference in my skin,” she says. “So that’s how I take my makeup off now. I don’t do it any other way.”

Next up, she follows her oil cleanse with a second gentle hydrating cleanser. “I like cleansers that don’t get super super foamy,” she says, explaining her preference for HoliFrog Tashmoo Waterlily Nourishing Milky Wash. “I prefer something that’s like a milkier, hydrating, nourishing wash. I never like for my skin to feel dry and stripped and tight after I wash it.”

"Hailey’s double cleanse is great for dry skin like hers," says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Blair Murphy Rose. "I love that she uses a gentle cleanser and doesn’t like her skin to feel stripped or dry. Perfect!"

Hailey Bieber's Serum

Pro tip from Bieber: She pats her skin with a washcloth, but leaves it slightly damp. Then, she works in her serum—she uses the Biba Los Angeles Plant Stem Cell Peptide Serum —with a massaging motion while it’s wet. She explains that this technique helps the product soak in better.

"Leaving skin damp before applying moisturizer is a great tip, but avoid this if using retinol or retinoids because that can cause excess irritation," says Dr. Murphy-Rose. "Most will fare better by drying more thoroughly before applying a vitamin A derivative."

Dermatologist Dr. Stacey Tull approves this serum selection. "The plant-stem-cell serum with peptides would be a great moisturizer as it has hyaluronic acid which is great for all skin types," she says. "It also has collagen-boosting peptides and good repairing and protective antioxidants."

Hailey Bieber's Moisturizer and Face Oil

Next, she applies her nighttime moisturizer, the Biba Los Angeles Cream Barrier. “At nighttime, I typically go with more intense moisturizer,” she says. “Something thicker, just to kind of soak into my skin overnight.” She also notes, however, that she avoids thicker moisturizers when she has an active breakout.

“My standard when I go to bed at night is that if I’m not getting into bed looking like a glazed donut, then I’m not doing the right thing,” says Bieber. “Find yourself a moisturizer that helps you look like a glazed donut at the end of the day.”

On top of her moisturizer, she likes to layer on a thin application of face oil, once again in the spirit of achieving that sugary glaze. She uses the Furtuna Skin Due Alberi Biphase Moisturizing Oil ($225).

Tull says that, while Bieber's night cream is a good choice for dry or wintertime skin, not everyone should try the face oil at home. "The oils that she uses would not be good for acne-prone skin," she says.

Hailey Bieber's Breakout Tip

Bieber explains that when her work schedule is busier and she’s changing out of different makeup looks more often, her face gets irritated and breaks out. Her solution? Starface Hydro-Stars and a prescription acne treatment. She spot-treats some small breakouts on her chin with a tiny dab of prescription ointment from her dermatologist and tops it off with a Hydro-Star. “They look cute!” she says. “I’m never mad at a cute little situation.”

"I love that she emphasizes using a little bit of a medication. If your derm says to use a tiny bit, really use a tiny bit," says Dr. Murphy-Rose. "Some prescriptions are very potent and work best when used sparingly. In these cases, using more is not more effective and can increase the risk of skin irritation."

She continues: "One slight change I would make to her routine is to apply prescription medications as an earlier step. It's usually best to apply an acne spot treatment or any other medications onto bare skin as the first step after cleansing, and before applying a moisturizer that could prevent the medication from working as well."

Hailey Bieber's Eye Cream

Now that her breakouts are sorted, Bieber moves on to eye cream. She gently taps the bareMinerals Ageless Phyto-Retinol Eye Cream into her skin under and around the eyes. She also applies the cream to her upper eyelids “because those get saggy as you age.”

Hailey Bieber's Lip Balm

Bieber finishes off her routine with something she “legitimately cannot go to bed without doing.” She applies a layer of the tried-and-true Aquaphor Healing Ointment to her lips. “I think it’s the best lip balm,” she says. She also mentions that if she ever has dry, flaky patches anywhere else on her skin, she applies Aquaphor on them to help them heal, which, as we know, works wonders.

Dermatologists Weigh In

There’s no doubt that as a model, Bieber has picked up a thing or two from top makeup artists and industry pros. But overall, how do dermatologists rate her regime?

"This is a very elaborate regimen with a lot of redundancy," notes Tull. "A good nighttime regimen would be a skin-type specific face wash, a retinol—over-the—counter or prescription strength based on skin type—and a good moisturizer if needed. "Her regimen includes a retinol but only for the skin around the eyes."

"Overall, Hailey has a great skincare routine and clearly knows how to listen to her skin!" says Murphy-Rose. "I like to educate my patients so they know when and how to adjust their skincare routine as needed depending on how their skin is behaving. She knows to avoid a richer moisturizer if her skin has been breaking out, and to apply her spot treatment sparingly only when and where needed."
