The Copper Edition is a special take on the original Q1 HE, which retails for a more modest $239.99 on Amazon. So, what sets this edition apart? Well, aside from the stunning solid copper case that doubles the weight, it boasts a unique keycap set with black and copper accents, and an updated programmable knob cap.
But it's not just about looks. The Copper Edition shares some key features with its predecessor, like the TMR sensors, tri-mode wireless connectivity, and an aluminium switch plate. However, it also introduces updated screw-in stabilizers, which should address the ticking issue often associated with Keychron keyboards.
The shared hardware extends to the physical operating system and connectivity mode switches, as well as the OSA keycaps, which promise the same comfort and durability. Additionally, the QMK firmware and Keychron Launcher compatibility make customization a breeze, allowing users to tweak actuation points, analogue features, lighting, and macros with ease.
However, there are some limitations to consider. The south-facing RGB backlighting limits shine-through keycap compatibility, and the keyboard is restricted to Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic switches, which, while decent, may not satisfy those seeking a truly exceptional typing experience.
