Amber Rutter will shoot for gold this afternoon after continuing her fine first-day form in the second half of the skeet qualification round.

Rutter missed a single clay in each of today’s two 25-shot rounds to finish with a score of 122 out of 125.

That made her level with Emmanouela Katzouraki of Green and the USA’s Austen Smith, with the field now reduced to eight in the final elimination round at Chateauroux.

Hockey heartbreak for GB men as they went out to India in a shoot-out after dominating the quarter-final

Paul Revington’s side were far the better side, although their cause was aided when India were reduced to 10 just seven minutes into the second quarter.

But India keeper PR Sreejesh was outstanding for his team to ensure the match went down to the ultimate test of nerve, with India winning 4-2.

And the Indian keeper was even better in the shoot-out, forcing Conor Williamson to miss and then saving from Phil Roper, as Raj Kumar Pal tricked Ollie Payne to plunge the dagger fatally into the GB body.

It was a devastating end to a campaign that has promised so much from the world’s second ranked team - who laid the price for a lack of clinical finishing when it mattered.

After a goalless first quarter, Amit Rohidas was red-carded for a violent back-hand stick into the face of William Calnan.

Despite that, India went ahead when Harmanpreet Singh’s deadly penalty corner found the GB net.

But Paul Revington’s team were on terms just before half-time, Lee Morton forcing home his third of the Games from close range.

After that it was GB versus Sreejesh, who made a series of brilliant stops as the men in red were unable to turn their superiority into goals, failing to convert any of their 10 penalty corners.

First up in the shoot-out, James Albery held his nerve to convert after sending Sreejeh to the floor before Harmanpreet span to slot home despite being called back just after he had started his initial run.

Zach Wallace scored on the reverse stick but Sukhjeet Singh responded

But Williamson got underneath his effort, sending it sailing over the bar and when Lalit Upadhyay netted the heat was on.

Sreejesh then saved from Roper and Pal’s nerveless conversion sparked celebrations in the corner as the GB players slumped in despair.

Dina Asher-Smith failed to reach the 100m final but has battled back in the 200m this morning.

She finished second in her heat in 22.28 with Nigeria's Favour Ofili marginally ahead.

And it is a job done for Team GB as all three athletes are comfortably through to tomorrow night's semis.

USA's Gabby Thomas was the fastest qualifier with 22.20, and Asher-Smith the third-fastest.

No goals and not many chances in the final quarter, although PR Sreejesh made one fine save from William Calnan.

And so it goes to the ultimate test.

Five “shuffles” each in a shoot-out, starting on the 25 yard line, with eight seconds to score - even if you need two or more goes at it.

If it goes wrong, GB will rue their failure to press home their extra man advantage for 42 minutes and the inability to convert even one of their 10 penalty corners.

But now it’s about the next few minutes and the test of nerve.

All GB in the third quarter. But India hanging on despite being down to 10 men.

Paul Revington’s team had four penalty corners in the 15-minute period and now have had 10 overall, without being able to score.

Part of that is India keeper PR Sreejesh, who has made eight saves already.

But GB have to be more clinical.

They have moved the ball cleverly to create space but still the only reward so far is Lee Morton’s equaliser just before half-time.

But a further twist just before the interval as India’s Sumit Sumit (corr) was handed a green card for cracking Tom Sorsby on the knee with his stick in a wild follow through.

It means it will be 11 against nine for the first two minutes of the final quarter, with a shoot-out looming if neither side can nudge ahead.

    Yu-ting's boxing victory

Yu-ting, 28, walked to the ring amid far less fanfare than Khelif yesterday, who was roared in by a packed-out crowd littered with Algerian flags.

It was a far quieter entrance for Yu-ting - a polite ripple of applause as she opened the boxing card at 11am local time for the final day of action at a far-from-full North Paris Arena before the remaining semi-finals and finals take place at tennis’ Roland Garros.

The opening round was a tense and tight affair as both women found their grove - and the five judges were dived, three giving it to Yu-ting and two to Staneva.

It got scrappy in the second, halted temporarily by the Bulgarian needing her shoelace retying, before she was given a ticking off for pushing Yu-ting to the canvas.

No1 seed Yu-ting, though, got awarded the round by all the judges and was therefore on the brink of victory.

Despite another tumble in the third - again not an official knockdown - and a late flurry from Staneva, Yu-ting had done enough by the final bell.

And when a unanimous points victory was confirmed, the Chinese Taipei star acknowledged the support before Staneva graciously sat on the rope to help her conqueror out of the ring.

All going off in the first few minutes of the second quarter as GB waste their referral - and India are reduced to 10 men.

Sam Ward tried to reverse his appeal to the umpire after an advantage was played in the Indian circle, with the striker aware he had made a mistake in asking for the video review.

But then Amit Rohidas, scrapping for the ball with William Calnan, clearly smashed the GB man in the face with his stick.

It went to an “umpire;s review” before it was - rightly - deemed that it had been a clearly deliberate and violent act by the Indian, who was shown the red card.

Rohidas and his team-mates were shocked. But it was the only possible decision for a blatant act.

    Olympics line-up

SunSport are back in position at the North Paris Arena for thefinal time at Paris 2024.

That is because after today, the boxing is moving to tennis' Roland Garros for the remaining semi-finals and all the gold medal matches - aka the finals.

But opening the card here this morning is Lin Yu-ting.

The Chinese Taipei star, 28, takes on Svetlana Kamenova Staneva of Bulgaria in their 57kg quarter-final in just under ten minutes' time.

Like Imane Khelif, Yu-ting was accusedby the IBA last year of allegedly failing a gender eligibility test.

The IBA claim she has increased levels of testosterone and male XY chromosomes - however, these results have not been fully verified and the IOC declared both boxers have the green light to step into the ring here in Paris.

Sun just about poking through the grey clouds here at Yves-du-Manoir as GB know that everything is on the line in the men’s hockey quarter-final against India.

GB men haven’t won a medal since the gold-winning heroics of Sean Kerly and Co in 1988.

It’s an Olympics revenge mission, too. India eliminated Britain 3-1 at the same stage in Tokyo.

No fewer than 10 of GB’s 16-man squad were involved that day, with Sam Ward - still waiting for his first goal of Paris 2024 - their scorer.

Since then, GB have ascended the world rankings, arriving in Paris second only to Holland, and having beat the Indians twice in a week in London in early June.

A man up. And, when they needed it, level.

Lee Morton’s close-range finish changed the mood just as things appeared to have made a hand-brake turn in India’s direction.

When Amit Rohidas was red-carded for a violent back-hand stick into the face of William Calnan, it seemed pivotal, even if Sam Ward had earlier wasted GB’s umpire referral.

But it was the Indians who struck first, Harmanpreet Singh flushing a penalty corner flick past Ollie Payne after the GB keeper had wedged the ball under his body on the previous attack.

This is hardly new territory in Paris.

GB have trailed in their last FOUR matches, coming back three times and only denied the fourth by the upright in the final minute against Germany.

And just before the interval, GB used the extra man to spread the play wide right and find the way to equalise.

Phil Roper drilled across to find the unmarked Morton, who forced his third goal of the Games past Indian keeper PR Sreejesh.
